Find the retail Windows Steam data folder
For a default Windows profile, paste %USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/The Sledding Corporation/Sledding Game into File Explorer’s address bar. This is the configured retail App 3438850 location, not a guessed Saved Games path or the demo’s folder.
| Configuration field | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Root | WinAppDataLocalLow | Valve maps this to the Windows profile’s AppData/LocalLow directory. |
| Subdirectory | The Sledding Corporation/Sledding Game | The game-specific data folder. |
| File pattern | * | All matching files at the configured location, not an identified single .sav filename. |
On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.
Windows can relocate profile folders, and Valve uses Windows APIs to find the actual root. If the default path is absent, confirm the Windows profile and the retail Steam product used for your last session. Do not create an empty substitute folder and call it a recovered save.

Make a backup before replacing anything
Close the game and finish the current sync
Quit normally, wait for the game process to finish and inspect Steam’s sync state. Resolve or document a sync warning before treating one copy as authoritative.
Copy the complete data folder
Copy Sledding Game to a separate dated backup folder outside the live data path. Keep every file and subfolder rather than selecting a guessed save filename. Label the copy with the store, account, PC and last good session.
Check the copy
Open the backup folder and compare its files and sizes with the closed-game original. Keep this backup unchanged; file dates alone do not prove that the contained progress is the desired progress.
For a local restore, first disable Steam Cloud for this game in its Properties while the game is closed, then exit Steam. This follows Valve’s documented per-game Cloud control and avoids an automatic sync during the file replacement.
Preserve the current local state
Make another dated copy of the current live folder before a restore. Move that live folder to a clearly labelled fallback location, leaving the backup itself untouched.
Copy the selected backup into the live location
Restore a copy of the complete backed-up folder to the original retail data location. Preserve the folder nesting exactly; do not leave an extra Sledding Game directory inside it.
Check the restored session with Cloud still disabled
Start Steam and the game with per-game Cloud disabled. If a save-slot picker appears, identify the intended slot. Check recognisable unlocks and progress, then quit normally.
Choose whether to resume Cloud sync
Only re-enable Cloud after deciding that the local state is the copy you want. If Steam presents a conflict, compare it with your actual play history; if it offers no clear choice, keep the backup and investigate before proceeding.

Understand the two save choices
The September game update adds a picker when multiple saves are found. That picker chooses among the game’s detected saves. Steam’s local/cloud conflict chooses which version to synchronise. They can appear in the same recovery attempt but are not the same menu.
Valve documents syncing before launch and after exit. A continuously synchronised Cloud copy can therefore change after an unwanted session; a dated manual copy gives you a separate recovery point.
If you are already missing progress, start with the lost-progress checklist. Before disconnecting for a trip, read the offline preparation guide; before installing modifications, use the mod rollback guide.
